I've experimented with playing cello parts of piano trios on the bass in the cello range - it's maybe not everybodys cup of tea but it's fun to try and certainly challenging...This piece by Clara Schumann is one of the more accessible pieces for bass and can also be played using viola for the violin part.  This recording of movements one and three feature my wife Camilla on piano and my daughter Ariana on viola.
